Tetcott and Luffincott
Introduction & Service Information
Holy Cross Church, Tetcott is a beautiful Grade I listed parish church set in unspoilt rolling Devon countryside dating back to the 13th century. Approached through parkland known locally as ‘The Wilderness’ and situated amongst a group of Grade II* and Grade II listed buildings including Tetcott Manor and a restored granary on stilts it has a fascinating history including its connections with the Molesworth-St. Aubyn family and its association with veterans and descendants of HMS Tetcott a hunter class destroyer deployed in the Mediterranean during WW2.
It is on the English Heritage’s ‘Heritage at Risk’ register.
The church serves the villages of Tetcott and Luffincott (population including children approximately 170) and as in a lot of small rural communities the congregation size has decreased in recent years. It now holds monthly services with additional dates at Easter, Christmas, and festivals as well as funerals, christenings and weddings. The PCC like to keep the church open for its many visitors, and a key is available nearby.
No one seeing this small rural church for the first time can fail to be charmed by its location and surroundings. The church has an active PCC who are determined to keep the church open and it is hoped that the congregation will grow in the future allowing the church and its fabric in this unspoilt little Devon hamlet to be preserved for future generation
Regular monthly Informal Services held on the first Sunday in the month 17.30 meet for tea/coffee and cake, everyone welcome.
